Anika tells you about her grant

It generally comes around once every four years and despite the delay, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics has shown once again what can be achieved if we aim Higher, Faster, Stronger and importantly Together.

The last two weeks have seen many of us glued to the screen, engrossed in sports never played or even watched before and inspired by the human stories of strength, resilience and sacrifice behind each of the athletes and the support and nurturing provided by the teams behind them. It’s the same message over and over again… “I could not have done this without…”.

It’s a message that resonates so strongly with our Foundation and our donors… to be there to support our students, like Anika Bhandari (Y10), in achieving their dreams. Anika is our 2021 Academic Scholarship recipient who will be using her grant to take part in the Trinity College (The University of Melbourne) Young Leaders Program (STEM stream) - you can watch a lovely video of her in our newsletter.

NOTE FROM THE CHAIR

Screen Shot 2021-06-05 at 9.24.02 pm.png

It’s been a busy first five months of 2021 as many of us have tried to resume our “normal” day-to-day lives and reconnect with our friends and family. As I write this, Melbourne has just gone into another lockdown for 7 days and it all feels like dejavu. I hope you are all keeping well and looking after your physical and mental health - we will get through this as we have many times before!

We have also been busy at the Foundation - since the start of the year we have granted our Academic Scholarship and 3 more COVID-19 bursaries.

We are delighted to announce Anika Bhandari in Year 10 as the recipient for the 2021 Academic Scholarship. Anika submitted an excellent application and intends to use her grant to take part in the Trinity College (The University of Melbourne) Young Leaders Program (STEM stream) providing her with the opportunity to live on campus and join STEM related lectures and workshops with like-minded young leaders. Congratulations Anika and we look forward to sharing some highlights from her experience later in the year…

Combating COVID

In 2020 we granted seven bursaries to students suffering from financial hardship. The effects of COVID continue to impact families and students, therefore we'll continue to be granting COVID Bursaries this year and have just notified three deserving recipients.
